COA RO2 celebrates the Commission’s 124th Founding Anniversary the #SummerFiesta Way

 The officials and employees of the Commission on Audit (COA) Regional Office No. 02 (RO2), Tuguegarao City, Cagayan celebrated the 124th Founding Anniversary of the Commission on May 2-3, 2023, with the theme “COA @ 124: Institusyong Maasahan, Dangal at Tiwala ay Pangangalagaan.”

The two-day activity was participated in by all COA RO2 personnel who were grouped by province namely White/Green Team (Regional Office), Yellow Team (provinces of Cagayan and Batanes), Red Team (province of Isabela) and Blue Team (provinces of Quirino and Vizcaya and the 2022 and 2023 recruits). The different teams competed in seven sports activities as well as in the sing and dance contest.

The first day started with a Fun Run/Walk around the Regional Government Center, CarigSur, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, which was organized by the Philippine Government Audit Service Employees Association (PhilGASEA) - COA Region 02 Chapter and the Sports Committee. The early riser COAns raced from the COA RO2 passing through three stations particularly the Department of Education (DepEd) - Regional Office No. 02, Land Registration Authority (LRA), Tuguegarao City, and Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) - Regional Office No. 02, with an approximate distance of five kilometers. Mr. Patrick John Matammu from Isabela province,  Ms. Gemelyn Seguirre and Mr. Danny Sison, both from the Regional Office were among the first finishers.

Before the sports activities commenced, several COAns attended the mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Dennis Jake Ordillos at the Regional Training Center. Shortly after a quick snack, the sportsfest dubbed this year as COA R02 Liga 2023 was declared officially open by Mr. Ronald T. Agcaoili, Steering Committee – Committee on Sports and Service Chief of Administration, Training and Finance Division (ATFD). In his message, Mr. Agcaoili quoted a line from the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali to inspire not only the players but also the spectators, Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them -- a desire, a dream, a vision.” 

The four teams competed in the seven contested sports activities. Overthrowing seven players, Mr. Ronald Agcaoili of White/Green Team was declared champion in chess. Players of White/Green Team were also proclaimed champions in darts Singles and Doubles for both Men and Women division while the Yellow Team was announced winner in the Mixed Doubles category. With their accurate angles and best shots in the billiard table, the White/Green Team emerged as champions for the Men Division, singles and doubles category, as well as for the Women Division, singles category, while the Yellow Team defeated the other players in the nine-ball game for the Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles category.

Displaying their perseverance until the final games, the Yellow Team won over the other teams in the table tennis for the Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles category while the White/Green Team beat the rest in the Men’s Doubles category. Meanwhile, the White/Green Team smashed hard and dominated the court in the badminton game where they emerged as champions in all the categories played.

During the second day, the White/Green Team executed their game-winning services and blocks as they claimed the top spots in Volleyball, both Men and Women Division. The basketball championship game was the highlight of this year’s Liga played between White/Green Team and Yellow Team. The close match was ended by the Yellow Team who was declared champion in the said game. After the sports activities, the COAns had a sumptuous lunch at the carpark of the Regional Audit Evidence Management Unit (RAEMU) building.

In the afternoon, the gymnasium had a #SummerFiesta vibes as it was filled with COAns clad in their floral outfits. The highlight of the afternoon activities was the song and dance contest where the different teams showcased their singing and dancing skills to the tune of summer-themed songs. The dancers and singers of the Yellow Team who festively and vigorously portrayed and interpreted the song “Ikaw ang Sunshine Ko” were proclaimed first place in the competition. The Blue Team, White/Green Team, and Red Team were placed second, third and fourth, respectively.

Several COAns were also recognized and given the following awards, namely Outstanding Employees/Service Award, Untiring Service and Unwavering Commitment to Duty Award, Loyalty Award and Posthumous Award. The six passers of the 2022 BAR examination were also recognized.

In his message, Director Hector L. Cortes, OIC-Director IV of this region, commended all the steering and working committees for a job well done in the preparation and execution of the two-day activity. He also congratulated all the winners in the sports activities and the song and dance contest, as well as the awardees and bar passers. He remarked that COAns are indeed well-rounded employees who excel not only in work but also in other fields such as social and sports activities.

This year’s COA Anniversary celebration also opened avenue to small and medium enterprises to share their products in the “Tianggehan sa COA” where small business owners were invited to market their products in the booths situated in the COA grounds.

While the summer days exhumed scourging heat, the ever resilient COAns weathered the same and enjoyed the 124th COA Anniversary Celebration in all smiles, with the hope of relishing more celebrations to come.
